Manga Upload: Maison Ikkoku

6 03 2007

Maison Ikkoku is a bitter-sweet comedic romance involving a group of madcap people who live in a boarding house in 80s Tokyo. The story focuses primarily on the blossoming relationship between Yusaku Godai—a poor student down on his luck—and Kyoko Otonashi, the young, recently-widowed boarding house manager. Rumiko Takahashi (Inu Yasha) has created a masterwork of storytelling. It’s definitely one of her best works! silverado

Isn’t this licenced and commonly available? I see it for sale in shops all the time for about 10 bucks a book. Kinda low to go and snipe the English distributor by pirating it… Isn’t the whole point of scanlations to get the word out in the hopes that it will get picked up locally?

Agreed, mainly for the fact that MI is arguably Takahashi’s best work ever. I personally could care less for the US distributors who are probably milking these works for all their worth due to Takahashi’s popularity.

So you’re a cheapskate who thinks that all companies are out to get money and your previous manga/anime is being ruined because of it? Get this: Japanese companies want your money just as badly and anime/manga are largely money-makers first before “the artist’s concerns” are involved.

Support the official releases, folks.

I will say that Maison Ikkoku is easily the best romantic comedy that I’ve ever read (not that that’s really saying much, but still). If you think that all Takahashi can do is Inu Yasha, then give this one a try because she’s at her best here.

Calling me a cheapskate for having a bad opinion of US distributors does not exactly make sense but if it makes you feel happy with your little soapbox rant…

Complaining about companies actually trying to make money is silly, especially in this case considering Rumiko Takahashi seems to only create more Inu Yasha for that purpose.

Good on ya.

It may be silly to you but that still doesn’t make me a cheapskate. Now that’s just silly.
